This exquisite Red-necked Phalarope was found by Graham Roblin at a rather out-of-the-way spot near the Kenfig salt marsh. Graham got news out about the bird and very kindly waited for an hour for me to turn up, making sure I would see the bird. The bird still showing majority 'winter plumage' is likely a 2nd cy bird. Whereas a Grey Phalarope can look like a miniature gull, I find that Red-necked Phalaropes seem to hold a much daintier appearance. A number of local birders made the strenuous dash through the dunes, which was made worth it knowing the prize at the end. Also around the area was a Purple Heron, 2 Little Ringed Plovers and a threatening looking Hobby.
Well done to Graham on his very special find for the recording area and thanks.
