We took the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Our second class tickets cost us USD 21 per person and we bought them directly from the Thai Railways website (link below) using a regular credit card. Instant confirmation came through on email with tickets and this turned out slightly cheaper than booking through an agent (pick the right one).

Once we got to Chiang Mai, we rented a scooter from CAT motors! There were scooters ranging from 100 cc to 125 cc and over 150 cc super scooters besides some really cool bikes too! We got a nearly new Honda Click 125 (only 16k on the odo) with no damages (and it even turned out to be the same colour as our Ford Aspire 😍). It had enough grunt to suit our long ride needs over the next three days. Oh, its advisable to carry an International Driving Permit / license to ride scooters in Thailand (cops check foreigners)!
