STORYLINE:
US President Joe Biden landed in Dublin on Wednesday for a three-day trip to the Republic of Ireland, which includes an address to the Dublin parliament and attendance at a gala dinner.
Biden spent less than 24 hours in Belfast, his first presidential visit to Northern Ireland, before flying on to the Republic of Ireland.
He had tea with U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and met with the leaders of Northern Ireland’s five main political parties before giving a speech at Ulster University.
During his trip to Ireland, Biden will visit two ancestral hometowns.
Plans for Biden to visit a cemetery Wednesday in County Louth, on Ireland’s east coast, were scrapped because of poor weather conditions.
He was also scheduled to tour a castle and walk around downtown Dundalk, possibly with some distant relatives.
