September 1944 the largest airborne operation in history was underway, Operation Market Garden. The operation saw more than 35,000 soldiers from the UK, Poland, Canada, and the US try to liberate the area around Arnhem in the south east of the Netherlands. Approximately 13,000 soldiers didn't return from the mission, giving their lives for the freedom we have today.

Last year we remembered those who fought so bravely for our freedom. Ensuring that their stories continue to be told so that we do not forget the price of peace. Their bravery 75 years ago continues to show the importance of the close security cooperation between the UK and the Netherlands.
