The United States Pacific Command has confirmed that the US has started to deploy the first elements of the controversial THAAD anti-missile system in South Korea. Officials say the current timetable is unrelated to the ongoing joint military drills Seoul and Washington are pushing through, despite opposition from neighboring countries China and Russia.
