Driving further along the empty roads of Altyn Emel national park and you will encounter a range of impressive and extremely distinct mountains creeping up on the horizon. They are called the Aktau mountains, and their unique geological formation definitely left a long-lasting impression upon us. These mountains are made of chalk and one can find calcite crystal too. The multi-coloured surface of the mountains are devoid of vegetation. Animals such as gazelles roam freely in the surrounding wild, untouched desert land. When visiting these mountains, one may feel as though they are time-travelling into the untouched landscapes which existed thousands of years ago, and still exist today. A perfect place to end the day staring in the distance next to a crackling fire.
