In light of the devastating findings earlier this year of several unmarked gravesites at former residential schools holding the remains of thousands of Indigenous children, the YMCA has been reflecting on the work that still needs to be done to become the Canada We Want – a country that acknowledges our past and present injustices, as well as our collective responsibility to persist in our commitment toward reconciliation.
Yvonne Provost and Daisy Giroux reflect on the impact the residential school system has had on their lives, the meaning of Orange Shirt Day, and their hopes for the future as Canadians learn the truth about what happened. Our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Yvonne and Daisy for sharing their truth.
