Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar questions the safety of gas laying pipeline operations by Indian Oil Adani gas company, questions why police has not arrested anyone in the incident . Says Losses caused by 22 hours power outage has to be recovered from the company
Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Friday raised concerns over the safety procedures adopted by Gas pipe line laying contractor Indian Oil Adani Gas ( IOAG ) company who had damaged the underground cable and subsequently caused a 22 hour long power outage in various parts of Vasco on Thursday
Amonkar said that despite an FIR being lodged , the police had not made any arrests in the case while demanding that all the losses incurred due to power outage by the Government and common people be recovered from the company
Amonkar also warned the he will not allow the IOAG company to carry out digging anywhere till the credentials of the company are verified
" It is an unfortunate in incident where the entire Mormugao constituency was kept under darkness after there was a 22 hour long power outage after the IOAG company damaged the underground cable . I personally went to the site to take the stock of the situation and many residents have suffered losses for no fault of theirs or that of the Electricity Department. Many ice cream parlours, wholesalers , fishermen and cold meat sellers have suffered huge losses due to the power outage without a reason while many people also faced a lot of inconvenience. " Said Amonkar
Amonkar said that after he met the officials and they said that the contractor was responsible for the incident and a FIR was lodged against the contractor
" The electricity department had no answer when I questioned them as to who had given the permission to the contractor for the excavation and they said they were not informed. Ideally the contractor had to coordinate with the Electricity department and PWD department and take a map from them to check for water Pipelines and power cables before carrying out an excavation . The contractor did not take any precautionary measures and began the excavation directly and damaged the underground cable" said Amonkar.
Amonkar said that contractor IOAG had no fear and there was no one to question them because of the involvement of Adani
" This is not the first incident and in the past the same company had damaged cables at St Jacinto and the entire Vasco in 2018 had to be in darkness on the occasion of Gudi Padva . There is no one to question the contractor and neither does the contractor have any fear of the Government .The police have not carried out any arrest on the FIR filed by Electricity department and the losses of Government in crores to buy power from other states yesterday has to be recovered from the company because they need to be taught a lesson oe they will not have any fear . In case the police does not arrest the people of the contractor, we will not allow any more excavation of this company ." Said Amonkar
" We know how a common man has to take so many permission and make so many payment to take up a small road cutting for purpose of water and power connection while these big companies excavate anywhere without permission and go Scot free despite damaging underground cables. This company not only excavates without permission and does not even cover the area after excavation. When a gas pipeline is laid, safety is very important and we have seen how people have died in a naptha accident and how recently the gas pipeline had melted during a wild grass fire at Zuarinagar. Who will check if the company is maintaining safety standards and who will be responsible for any incident in the future. Who will have the map for this gas pipeline because tomorrow for any excavation for government or normal residents , it is important to know where the gas pipeline are placed and we want to know who is inspecting the works and wether the company is efficient or not and wether all their credentials including all certificates for safety have been checked . We dont anything and we are not sure about the safety of the Vasco city. The Adani nust not take the people of Vasco or the Government for granted and we warn that I will take the responsibility and not allow the company to carry out excavation anywhere till we have verified all their credentials. I appeal to the Government to intervene and take action and also request the police to carry out arrests on the FIR lodged against this company and initiate a huge fine on this company. I will also meet the police to find the status of the FIR lodged against the company" said Amonkar
