Minor League Baseball has a deep history dating all the way back to the 1800s, featuring numerous reorganizations and contracts with Major League Baseball.
In this video, I start from the National Agreement of 1883 and go all the way to the proposed overhaul of Minor League Baseball after the 2020 season. Along the way, I touch on the various classifications used for the minor leagues, and how we ended up with a somewhat confusing system today that includes class A advanced, class A, and class A short season.
I also touch on the formation of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues in 1901, the creation of the farm system by Branch Rickey and the St Louis Cardinals, and the Professional Baseball Agreement of 1963.
Link to Mike McCann's Minor League Source where you can find lists of all the leagues that came and went over the years, as well as the timeline of the different classifications.
