Andal's Thiruppavai occupies a central space among Sri Vaishnava sacred texts. Throughout the month of Margazhi, all homes reverberate with the enchanting sounds of the Thiruppavai. These hymns are ecstatic outpourings of Sri Andal in a spirit of total surrender.
Thiruvempavai was composed by Saint Manikkavasagar (one among the Tevaara Naalvar) in the temple town of Tiruvannamalai. This is a penance observed by unmarried girls of those times to get good husbands.
"Margazhi Hymns" is a 30-day series by Kalaimamani Vid. Gayathri Girish, featuring the 30 verses of Thiruppavai, 20 verses of Thiruvempavai & 10 verses of Thirupalliyezhuchi; along with lyrics in Tamil and English.
