You’ll notice that there are systems in your everyday life… From making toast to many of the many daily business tasks you complete, everything is a system!
Once you see this, you can’t unsee it.
That’s what Dave Jenyns realized when he was teaching his son how to make toast. There’s a system in the daily things you do that you don’t realize — some you don’t document but do it so much that it’s become a habit, an unconscious, internalized system.
When you start being aware of everything being a system, you can break down the process into six essential components:
● The Why
● The Trigger
● The Start
● The Steps
● The Stop
● The Example
Teaching your kid how to make his favorite breakfast or documenting your workplace processes to turn them into delegatable work have all these elements. In both instances, you’ll capture the critical steps, codify them, and make it easier for the recipient to learn the process.
