We are getting ready for Christmas by working on a fabric advent calendar starting in July. These panels are readily available in a wide selection of designs, with similar constructions techniques. So whilst your panel may not be identical to mine, you will be able to see how I handle the construction of the pockets, before making up the main panel before adding the pockets, embellishing the panel and then binding and hanging it.
I will also be crafting some non-food treats for popping inside the pockets that will be a delight for many years to come.
I give a couple of shoutouts during this video as follows:
Makower Fabric Panel No 2477 Santa Paws
The Sewing Studio in Cornwall, this is where I purchased my panel and they have excellent customer service. Here is a link to their YouTube channel.@SewingStudio
Sewing Machines Direct - Where I purchase my machines from (they ship internationally) and where the thread pack I use was a free gift when I purchased my machine. Here is a link to their YouTube channel@sewingmachinesdirect6691
The binding clips you can get from your local quilting or crafting store, or on Amazon.
To finish this project you will need (not an exhaustive list!):
~Fabric Advent Panel of your choice
~Wadding/Batting big enough to extend at least 1" on all sides of your panel
~Backing Fabric - I use two - the first one to be the original 'quilt sandwich' and another to pop on after the stitching is done to hide the stitches.
~Binding Fabric - can match your final backing fabric
~Embellishments for the panel - sequins, buttons, embroidery thread, etc - keep in mind the age of the recipient and safety issues.
~Wooden dowelling - for the top and the bottom of the panel to keep it from curling when in use
~Your choice of treats/items to go in the pockets.
Happy stitching everyone!
