The village of Mvezo on the banks of the Mbashe River in the rural Eastern Cape has a rich heritage. It's where the global icon, Nelson Mandela was born. The people of Mvezo want to use that heritage, the home village of Madiba, to transform and uplift their environment and standard of living.
Local traditional leaders believe sustainable rural development is closely linked with preserving rural heritage. But it requires a concerted effort from a number of role players to achieve this goal.
