Island waterfalls seem like something out of a story book. We have been lucky enough to see quite a few, but Salto Do Prego is definitely at the top of the list. Located in Faial da Terra, on São Miguel Island of the Azores in Portugal, you can expect that this entire area is going to be breath taking.

This is a destination hike, where you'll find the opportunity to check out more than one waterfall or scenic area in just one visit. Take this time to watch our whole experience to see if this is a good fit for you and your travel buddies. There are a few places that are steep but otherwise this hike should be relatively doable for all hiking levels.

São Miguel Island is replete with lush vegetation and historical landmarks. There are many things to do here on the island, but the Salto Do Prego should make the cut for your "Must See" list!

Here are a couple of tips for your trip:

Gear:
Hiking shoes (water resistant if possible)
Rain jacket
snacks and water (not gear but equally important)

Directions:
Take Highway EN1-1A out to Faial using Google maps, you may lose cell service while driving, but there will be signs to follow so don't be worried.

Take a left at the first intersection in town and follow signs for "Salto Do Prego" keep driving until you reach the dirt parking area

The hike is only 2.8 miles (4.5 km) round trip and is well designated
