In Niger, where international pressure is growing to restore the democratically elected president.
Mohamed Bazoum was detained by his own guards on Wednesday and the military is backing the coup leaders.
The eventual outcome of the battle for power in Niger could affect the Sahel region as a whole and the continuing fight against rebels linked to al-Qaeda and ISIL.
