Hi everyone! This is the recipe I use to make fire cider at home. Fire cider is a powerful tonic you can take daily to boost immunity and health OR use as a supplement during sickness when the immune system is compromised. I highly recommend trying it if you are interested in homeopathic remedies! It's super easy to make! If you try it yourself, be sure to let me know in the comments section!
Ingredients
1 lemon, chopped into sections
2 oranges, chopped into sections
1 seven inch piece of ginger, peeled and grated (or finely chopped)
1 seven inch piece of fresh horseradish, peeled and grated (or finely chopped)
10-15 cloves of garlic, peeled and pressed (or finely chopped)
3 habanero peppers, stems removed and chopped
Two inch section of fresh tumeric (peeled and grated)
32 - 64 ounces raw apple cider vinegar (depending on size of jar or jars); I like Bragg’s brand the best
raw honey (optional; to taste)
Additional optional add ins:
Fresh herbs of your choice
Lime zest
Cayenne chili powder
Peppercorns
Instructions
1. Wash all ingredients well and scrub horseradish to remove any dirt. Prep ingredients as indicated above, EXCEPT the turmeric which we will grate directly into our containers. To minimize staining. I used a food processor to help me with this (the grating attachment is my best friend) because it saves a lot of time, but if you don’t have one you can do it by hand!
2. Add ingredients to a wide mouth gallon sized glass canning jar or split between two half gallon canning jars. Grate your peeled tumeric on top of the ingredients.
3. Add 64 ounces of raw apple cider vinegar (or 32 ounces to each half gallon container)
4. Cover jars with cheesecloth or a natural breathable material (I used pieces of a cotton kitchen towel that I cut); secure WELL with rubber bands. This will prevent insects or bacteria from entering your fire cider while it infuses.
5. Place in a cool, dark place for 4 weeks.
6. After 4 weeks, strain the contents of your containers over a large bowl using a fine metal strainer.
7. Funnel into airtight glass containers of your choice.
STORAGE
Store in a cool, dry place OR in the refrigerator. Fire cider has a very long shelf life since it is vinegar based.
HOW TO USE
As a supplement to prevent illness and boost immunity, take 1 ounce (the size of a standard shot glass) daily. As a supplement to combat cold or flu symptoms, take 1 ounces up to three times a day at the first sign of symptoms.
