Macop cultural dance video, song by artist Dut Anyar. This video during a cultural celebration..
Pretty much, Macop dance is a natural way of thorough walkout and this may be why almost everyone who could dance in South Sudan does not necessarily need the gym session. Cultural dance is super-fun too.
Macop dance is conversant well with South Sudanese. During the independence struggle, the SPLA military (South Sudan army, now SSPDF) adopted Macop dance as part of its paramilitary exercise (Jambas) when preparing to go to the frontlines, and even upto date, the army still go on jambas. Macop becomes an epitome of resilience and dexterity by forces.
The dance is popular with the Bahr el Ghazal rgion, particularly the Dinka/Jieng.
South Sudan is one of the most cultural countries in Africa. People are competely immersed in the culture. If you see South Sudanese gather, expect a traditional dance to follow.
