Dozens of Quincy's veterans and their families gathered Sunday to remember the lives of the men and women who've fought for our country.
The Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy held its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Lippincott Hall. The ceremony honored many local veterans and veterans organizations.
Every year, the group chooses an annual wreath bearer. This year, the honor fell on Lonita Fox. This wasn't her first time at the Illinois Veterans Home. She was present at a Korean War memorial dedication more than 20 years ago, in honor of her brother. He died while fighting in Korea.
"Everybody should remember what these people have done for them. To be able to walk down a street, you have freedoms here that you wont have in other countries," Fox said.
Sitting amongst dozens of other veterans in Sunday's crowd was World War II Veteran Clyde Gauley.
One thing about it is that people come out here to visit the veterans and the veterans like to see people come out and talk to them, you know. So it's wonderful," Gauley said.
The ceremony concluded with the playing of Taps.
