(Summary: Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens)
'Please, sir, I want some more'.
Growing up, Dickens was my favourite author due to his unmatched ability to bring his characters to life. From the grotesqueness of Fagin and Bill Sikes to the pompousness of Mr. Bumble and the wretched yet lovable Oliver, Dickens' characterisations in combination with his sharp satire have cemented Oliver Twist's place as a true literary classic.
Of all the fantastic characters, however, my favourite has to be Charley Bates. Although he starts out as a kid that doesn't take anything seriously and seems destined for a life of crime, he ends up being the only one with the morals and bravery to stand up to Bill Sikes and is even able to turn his life around in the end. Who is your favourite character? Let me know in the comments!
