We show you how it's possible to build a floating deck in under 4 hours! ⚡⚡
Now there are 3 things we'll be upfront about.
1) Sam's a professional builder (and a fast one at that). Some of you might match his pace but for others it might take a bit longer.
2) Sam pre-cut his joists. Cutting these to length would require roughly an additional hour with a drop saw.
3) We went on a break after the deck boards went down (which explains the shadows changing.)
These were the timings for each step:
Outer joists: 30mins
Cross joists: 25mins
Joist tape: 25mins
Kleva Klip fastening: 1hr 12mins
Deck boards: 15mins
Fascia boards: 1hr 13mins
Interestingly the fascia boards ended up taking the most time. The Kleva Klip fasteners made inserting the deck boards a breeze but took a fair bit of time to install. If you didn't use them, then this whole section would probably take a similar length if fastening directly into the joists.
Additionally, ground prep on this project was fairly simple but on other projects this can add further steps like removing the top soil, using a compactor and adding aggregate under the blocks.
We hope this time-lapse shows you what's possible in a relatively short space of time, and if you have a project that needs to be completed in a single day or weekend, then it's definitely achievable !
