Σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα της ειδησεογραφικής ιστοσελίδας Πρώτο Θέμα, που έχει ως πηγή του το SPUTNIK, o Ρώσος πρόεδρος Βλαντιμίρ Πoύτιν, σε τηλεφωνική συνομιλία που είχε με τον Τούρκο πρόεδρο Ταγίπ Ερντογάν, του επισήμανε τη σημασία που έχει η δημόσια κατακραυγή για την μετατροπή της Αγίας Σοφίας από μουσείο σε τζαμί, στη Ρωσία.
