Piping Plover season is under way in Chicago! First, a lone bird arrived on 57th Street Beach on the South Side. It didn't have leg bands so it is thought to be from the Great Plains population of Piping Plovers (which aren't banded). Later yesterday, Imani, son of the original Chicago plovers "Monty" and "Rose," appeared at Montrose Beach on the North Side. Piping Plovers never cease to surprise us; here is an unbanded bird with Imani--likely the 57th Street bird who'd decided to come up north.
