The Local TV licence for London has been awarded to London Live, the Evening Standard consortium led by Russian owner Evgeny Lebedev. There were five bidders competing for the lucrative licence. Local TV for communities was put on the agenda by the coalition government by former culture secretary Jeremy Hunt. About 11 of the 20 licences across the UK have been awarded, including Belfast, Brighton and Birmingham. All the local TV services in England will be broadcast on channel 8 on Freeview and channel 17 on Sky. YNUKtv met three of the applicants
