The musical interlude by The Sages Duo (East Asian folk fusion) at the SOAS Graduation 2019.
The Sages (竹林七贤) is the brainchild of SOAS-based Chinese singer and songwriter Yijia Tu. The project focuses mainly on traditional East Asian music. Growing up in the age of globalisation and with experience in the Chinese pop music industry, Yijia aims to explore concepts of ‘East’ and ‘West’, cultural identity and musical ‘genres’, through original compositions and adaptations of traditional folk music. Since the formation of her project in November 2017, The Sages have played at numerous venues and events, including the 2018 Oxford Chinese New Year Gala, Rich Mix and the Greenwich & Lewisham Young People's Theatre. Yijia will be joined by fellow SOAS music student, multi-instrumentalist and Mongolian overtone singer Peadar Connolly Davey.
