Heavy snow and freezing rain have hit parts of Germany, bringing transport to a halt in some regions and causing major disruption at airports. Recorded on a cold winter day in January 2024, this walk through the city center of Düsseldorf in western Germany captures the turbulent weather. Heavy snowfall brought traffic to a standstill in large parts of the city, with roads and highways clogged with stranded motorists, public transportation delays & cancellations. Beyond the renowned shopping streets of Königsallee and Schadowstraße, I will show you the Carlsplatz market, the picturesque river Rhine, the Altstadt (Old Town) and a bit of Little Tokyo (Immermannstraße). Known as a regional centre for banking, advertising, fashion and shopping, Düsseldorf also boasts a strong Japanese cultural influence. The city offers a wealth of cultural diversity, abundant shopping and leisure opportunities, and a lively nightlife. This tour invites visitors to appreciate Düsseldorf, a city often overlooked in favour of Germany's larger urban centres such as Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne. Notably, Düsseldorf is also home to the largest Japanese community in Germany, attracting locals, business people, manga enthusiasts, otakus and food lovers from around the world.
