October 2012, six intrepid women divers set off for Fiji to count sharks and learned all about the amazing sharks of Shark Reef Marine Reserve, Beqa Lagoon. They also discovered that counting sharks is FUN! The SharksCount Program and our partners, Scuba Diver Girls, and Ocean Technology Systems (OTS) trained 12 divers to be 'citizen scientists' for sharks; how to log their dives and shark sightings for conservation applications. All collected data was shared with our local scientific and management partners; and new wonderful partnerships were formed too. What an adventure!
