Right in Brisbane’s backyard, there’s an island made entirely of sand. Moreton Island ( MULGUMPIN ) may not have any sealed roads, but what it does offer is the perfect setting for coastal camping and shipwreck snorkelling.Thanks to OVERLANDER ADVENTURES for lending us this absolute weapon of a set-up for 4 days 3 nights over on Moreton Island for an absolutely stunning camping experience.
PART 2-
Day 3 of our Moreton Island trip I'm joined by friends Amy & Skye to adventure around the North/East areas of the Island.
- Moreton Island played its part as one of Australia's major coastal defence bases during both World Wars – discover what remains of this history in a number of concrete bunkers, shelters and gun batteries throughout the island.
- Tidal pools
-Visit Cape Morton lighthouse (the first lighthouse built in Queensland). The Cape is worth a visit not just to see the lighthouse but also as a great viewing point to spot migrating whales, dolphins, manta rays, dugongs, turtles and sharks below.
-Near Cape Moreton on the north-east tip of the island, the Champagne Pools get their name from the sparkling effect created as ocean waves crash over the volcanic rock breakwall.
-Between the rocky Cape Moreton and North Point (where the Champagne Pools are) lies Honeymoon Bay – a picturesque half-moon shaped 50m-wide beach.
All of Moreton Island is made of sand, and there is no way to avoid getting sand in everything you own – so you may as well embrace it. On day 4 we headed to desert for a sand board early in the morning to beat the heat. The last few hours of our Moreton trip we headed to the very iconic Tangalooma Wrecks for a snorkel. Tangalooma Wrecks is a cluster of ships scuttled by the Queensland Government in the 60's-80's to provide safe anchorage spot for recreational boat owners on the eastern side of Moreton Bay. Coral is now starting to form in and around the wrecks, providing a haven for over 100 species of fish and sometimes even dolphins, wobbegongs and dugongs. Making is an amazing site to go snorkel and dive.
This Gladiator set-up was sick! We had the luxury of two roof top tents, fridge/freezer, running fresh water for drinking and showers and so much more! Its everything you need for a a trip away.
How lucky we are to live in such a naturally beautiful country!! We have so much fun adventuring and filming these vlogs so if you want more make sure you;
