About the speaker:
Dr. Irene Abreu-Rodriguez received her PhD in 2010 from the University of Seville (Spain) and did her postdoctoral thesis at the University of Zurich (Switzerland), specialising in the study of promoter regions and molecular mechanisms of gene expression regulation.
Subsequently, Irene continued her training in genetics with an MSc in genetic counselling (accredited by the European Medical Genetics Council at Pompeu Fabra University), together with consultations with patients at different levels (prenatal, infantile and adult) and with different disorders in the field of neurology, gynaecology, oncology, psychiatry and medical genetics in general. In addition, she worked at the Department of Molecular Genetic Diagnosis of the Institute of Medical Genetics at the University Hospital of Zurich as a Genetic Laboratory Advisor.
Irene curretnly works at Reference Laboratory contributing with her experience as laboratory genetic counselor, where there are shared responsibilities between molecular genetics laboratories and medical teams, focusing on the patients' wellbeing.
