The Amargosa River Trail follows the course of the river canyon of the same name, between China Ranch and the small community of Tecopah. Part of the route follows the former corridor of the historical Tonopa and Tidewater ("T&T") Railroad, built around the turn of the 20th century. The trail is within the Amargosa River Natural Area, administered by the Bureau of Land Management.
The trail has a mostly level grade and follows part of the Old Spanish Trail, and you're likely to see a variety of wildlife, including many bird species. The trail also passes by a nice waterfall and includes interesting geological features.
On the north end, you can access the trail from south of the Tecopa Post Office, although it's not a part of the official trail. Follow the old railroad right-of-way for about 0.5 mile to the trail. From the China Ranch trailhead you can also do a 2-mile loop to the confluence of Willow Creek and the Amargosa River then head back up the east side of the creek.
