Another fun Saturday morning at Mountbatten track for the OMEGA Portsmouth circuits number 07 - 4th category.
This one was interesting. A bigger field than the last two races (10 or 11 riders) for the 4th category and I was focusing primarily on process goals (thanks to the TrainerRoad forum for pointing me in the right direction) rather than obsessing about being up front / winning etc..
Made a conscious effort not to just sit on the front and instead conserve energy. Given the pace was quite slow at times, I surprisingly still hit my highest 30 minute power for this year (330w or 345w normalised). The headwind on the back two thirds of the circuit was a killer.
Didn't go hard enough or soon enough in the final sprint and paid the price, being beaten to the line by better riders. Well done to everyone who raced!
MASSIVE thanks to British Cycling for the special dispensation consent to use an on-the-bike camera to capture race footage. And as usual, big shout out to all the volunteers who make this series such a success for all involved.
Also thanks to the guys at DH Racing who provided some great extra finish line footage!
