If you have to imagine Camus, imagine him as a kind, thoughtful man who liked to ask big questions about life, like why we are here and what our lives mean.
Albert Camus was a very important writer from Algeria, but he wrote in French because Algeria was ruled by France when he was born in 1913.
Camus wrote stories and books, and he also thought and wrote about how sometimes life can feel really confusing and like it doesn’t make sense, which he called “the absurd.”
Imagine you’re trying to solve a puzzle but you find out there are pieces missing so you can never complete it—that’s kind of what he meant by “absurd.”
He wrote some famous books that a lot of grown-ups read (and you can too):
1. The Stranger - This is a story about a man named Meursault who doesn’t cry when his mom dies, which makes people very suspicious. This book shows how sometimes people can feel disconnected from the world around them.
2. The Plague - It’s about a town that gets very sick from a bad disease, and it shows how people work together and try their best even when things are really hard.
3. The Myth of Sisyphus - This one is a bit like a fairy tale, but they say it’s for grown-ups. It talks about a man named Sisyphus who has to push a big rock up a hill over and over forever. Camus says that even if life can feel repetitive and tough, we can still find happiness in what we do every day.
4. The Fall - This book is about a man named Jean-Baptiste Clamence who tells his life story to a stranger he meets. It’s a bit like when you confess after doing something wrong.
Camus thought that even though life can sometimes feel like it has no purpose, we should try to be happy, be nice to others, and enjoy the simple moments like playing, laughing, and being with family.
He won the Nobel Prize, which they say is a very big award that only super special thinkers and writers get, because his books made people think differently about life and helped them understand their feelings better.
So, Albert Camus was a man who wrote stories to help us understand that life is sometimes strange and confusing, but we can still find ways to be happy and make the most of it.
