Roger Curtis, Technical Research Manager for Historic Environment Scotland is a Chartered Building Surveyor with experience in the repair and conservation of a wide range of traditional and historic structures from bridges to harbours, castles and cathedrals. He was a project manager for seven years on sites all over Scotland, managing teams of trades such as masons, slaters, joiners and specialist crafts such as stained glass. In his current role, he advises the public and professionals on defects, repairs and alterations to traditional and historic buildings, and has worked with Scottish Government on wider issues affecting the built environment including training, materials, the supply chain and sustainability. His current focus is on energy efficiency upgrades for the older housing stock, both in terms of developing technical solutions and ensuring development of best practice in the refurbishment sector, where Historic Environment Scotland is taking a lead.
