Software development goes wrong in lots of different ways, so what are the common causes of software project failure and who is responsible? Is it evil managers who have no care for software quality or good work and aim to keep their technical teams overstressed and cutting corners - features at all cost? Or is the reason the software fails because development teams are not skilled enough, or careful enough in their work? Actually yes and no to both of these - it’s more complicated than it seems.
In this episode, Dave Farley, author of "Continuous Delivery" and "Modern Software Engineering” explores the idea that devs and managers misunderstand each other in important ways, and that the common causes of software failure are nearly always down to some extremely common systemic failures - failing to work incrementally, and making decisions in the wrong part of the development process.
