Chicago, Illinois
Chicago, like nearly all cities, suffers from the “heat-island effect:” when temperatures soar, the pavement absorbs heat, and residents suffer. After a deadly heat wave in 1995, Chicago officials and citizens decided it was time for a change. The Windy City’s “Greening Chicago” program is adding green roofs, transforming blacktop into gardens, and bringing communities together in the process. This video is presented as formatted for the Age of Humans Gallery in the David H. Koch Hall of Fossils – Deep Time.
Featuring Pastor Otis Moss, III of Trinity United Church of Christ; Dr. Dino Rumoro, Physician with Rush University Medical Center; Dr. Jim Angel , Climatetologist for Illinois State; Staci Godbold, Chicago Resident; and Michael Berkshire, Green Projects Administrator with the City of Chicago
