Pro-democracy crowds in Iran rallied outside a prison in the city of Karaj on January 9, to protest the government’s recent decision to move forward with several more executions of protesters this month. At least two of the protesters were being held in solitary confinement in that prison.

A spokesperson for the UN’s human rights office said the regime’s decision to carry out executions without ‘fair trial and due process’ amounts to ‘state-sanctioned killings.’
