Aladdin is a medley of popular tunes from the well-known Disney ilm of the same name, including songs like “Arabian Nights”, “Prince Ali” and the famous theme song “A Whole New World”. Aladdin is an epic musical exploration of the growth of the main character - Aladdin - who went from rags to riches with the help of a magic genie.
The first song, Arabian Nights, has a slow and heavy tune that reflects the struggles that Aladdin had to endure before finding the magic lamp.
The second song, Prince Ali, is lighthearted and grand, as Aladdin is now a rich man. It reflects how a change in status has also allowed for a change in attitude towards life without financial burdens, lauded by many.
The final song, A Whole New World, brings the piece to a full and whole end as Aladdin pursues the love of his life. It explores the theme of love with a gentle rhythm yet distinctive melody line.
Through these songs, we see the maturation of a young man who, by a stroke of luck and his own decisions, manages to eventually find love and achieve riches.
