Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy says recent polling suggests the government haven’t convinced Australians they are “on top of” the cost-of-living crisis.
Latest polling shows Labor to have a primary vote of just 32 per cent.
“Clearly the government have not yet got on top of – in the people’s minds, the cost-of-living crisis, and that they can do more,” Mr Conroy told Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt.
“The Treasurer Jim Chalmers was hinting at relief in the upcoming budget, and I would hope that it’s substantial.
“They’ve got to be seen to be building more houses, not just having conferences with other politicians.”
