Under changes coming into place on August 1, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is removing those requirements, with MS 2-step soon able to be prescribed like any other medicine.
Doctors and the federal government are welcoming the changes, saying they will remove a "massive" barrier to accessing the medicine.
But GPs are warning this cannot be the end of the road, with more needing to be done to increase the number of healthcare professionals prescribing the medicine.
