Kenya may soon witness a surge in GMO maize if the government approves an application for its production and sale. The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) has invited Kenyans to share their views on the proposed release of genetically modified maize, popularly known as Bt maize. NBA assures the public that rigorous assessments are being conducted to ensure the maize is safe for both human and animal consumption. If approved, further tests will evaluate its performance in different agro-ecological zones.
