Chateau Marjosse (pronounced Mar Joe ss) is a red wine from the Entre Deux Mers region of Bordeaux (it also produces a white wine). Entre Deux Mers means between 2 tides because the region is between 2 tidal rivers: the Garonne and Dourdonne rivers. Most people assume "mers" comes from the French word for sea but it actually is derived from the French word "maree" meaning tides.
The winery is owned by Pierre Lurton, famed manager of Cheval Blanc and D'Yquem. He grew up around this region and slowly purchased lots owned by the winery, beginning in 1991. Then he started to renovate the vineyard and cellar piece by piece more as a pet project. In 2013, he purchased the entire winery including the stone house (or Chartreuse) on the property, which is now his personal residence. In 2017, he brought in new winemaker so the winery is now starting to producing some excellent value wines.
The estate is approximately 40 acres in size. The price of the wine is $30 + taxes
The wine is a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc/Malbec. It is aged in oak barrels for 12 months.
