Aklatan highlights the importance and the significance of public libraries in Metro Manila. It serves as a guide and a directory for the public libraries to guide college students with their research and study needs, it also promotes a study conducive collaborative environment, and also creates social awareness for public libraries.
Public libraries offer books and services accessible to everyone. Not everyone has access to information and the public libraries provide to fill that gap. The public libraries are extremely inclusive; their collections consists of subject matters for all ages and interests, from children’s books, reference books, filipiniana , law, periodicals and serials, books and materials for PWD, fiction, and books and other special collections such as local history and artifacts. They especially play a big part with preserving their unique collection of locally based materials/history.
There is a misconception that public libraries are not relevant anymore because of the Internet, but not everything is in the internet, the value of the internet cannot replace the value of the reading and the literacy skills that accompany it.
This project seeks to show how public libraries can be a great resource to college students and researchers and to encourage more patrons to visit the public libraries.
