In this video, I am out sea trout fishing on Gotland in late December. Both air and water temperature is high for the season and the fish is feeding. I received many questions about my strategy of fishing a floating line instead of slow intermediate. Why I use it in so many videos and I feel it is time I explain.
The biggest mistake I see when people streamer fish with a floating line is that they don't take advantage of the possibility to control the depth of the fly/flies. To keep the flies in the strike zone for most of the retrieve is so critical. When like here fishing in quite cold water I can very effectively do that by allowing the flies to sink before retrieving. In warmer temperatures closer to the summer I just use a heavy jiggy fly or change to an intermediate line if that helps me to more effectively cover what seems to be the most likely strike zone.
