In this video, Tim Warner covers a brief demonstration of configuring claims with dynamic access control (DAC) in Windows Server 2012. This version of Windows Server provides numerous new features, but this video focuses specifically on exploring DAC, what it is, and what it can do for you.
Dynamic access control in Windows Server 2012 is data governance technology that works along with NTFS and shared folder permissions. The former governs authorization to access folders on the server, while the latter provides authorization for both files and folders, blocking or granting access based on a user’s identity in Active Directory. This works well in smaller organizations, but as companies get larger and scale up and out, it becomes more and more cumbersome to juggle Active Directory groups in these discretionary access control lists. DAC was designed to help organizations navigate this scenario, along with a number of other benefits it offers.
