"Germany will not now have a generation of white, old, angry, male leaders". That's the view of Franco-German relations expert Hans Stark, as he looks to the future of Germany potentially now under the leadership of Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer. She was selected at the end of last week as the new leader of Germany's Christian Democratic Union, replacing Angela Merkel.
Merkel says she’ll also stand down as German chancellor in 2021, presumably paving the way for AKK, as she’s known, to take up the reins.
Hans Stark of the French Institute of International Relations, and of the Sorbonne University in Paris, says Kramp-Karrenbauer is promising to concentrate on social policies. He tells us why he believes she will be different to Merkel.
