This restored head is believed to be the emperor Valentinian I, though some believe it to be his brother/co-emperor, Valens.
It can be found at the Museum of Classical Archaeology, Cambridge.
His death goes like this: Valentinian arrives at the town of Brigetio (modern day Szőny in Hungary), where he receives some envoys from the Quadi (a Germanic people who lived in Slovakia and Czechia). They agree to supply recruits to the Roman army in return for peace. Both sides accept and the envoys are granted an audience with the emperor. During the meeting, the Quadi (who may or may not be drunk) start blaming the Romans for the conflict. They claim that Rome built forts on their territory and that individual bands of the Quadi might attack Roman troops, because they aren't bound by the treaty that their chieftains made with Rome. This enrages Valentinian who starts yelling and shouting at the envoys to the point where he suffering a stroke and dies.
