Ignoring threats of violence from Indonesian security forces, tens of thousands of people have rallied in war-torn Aceh province to demand a referendum on independence.
Pro-independence supporters took to the streets of the capital Banda Aceh on Saturday, as a military helicopter hovered overhead and armoured vehicles stood guard.
The separatists have been fighting for independence for their oil and gas-rich homeland since 1975, with at least five and a-half thousand people killed in fighting in the past decade.
