Utilizing our unique process methodology (patented and licensed) together with our robust open arc AC electric furnaces we offer turnkey process solutions to adding value to a wide range of source materials. Our process has a high degree of success with highly efficient recoveries, capable of producing LME-grade products.
AMRT in collaboration with its licensor “AMRT” have developed an AC open arc melt reduction furnace, as well as a unique thermodynamically-based mathematical model and process methodology. This combination of technology, hardware and process skills converts environmental problematic materials, primary ores and waste streams into commercially saleable products. Unlike much larger conventional furnaces, we do not need to agglomerate or pelletize the feed material – the finer the better! We operate on a batch process so production problems can be easily identified and rectified. The furnace is small (up to 5.0 MVA), robust and energy efficient. A mobile version (1.25 MVA) is available for deployment in rural and remote areas.
The EU funded ENEXAL project
The European Commission has funded a research programme entitled Novel technology for enhanced energy and exergy efficiencies in primary aluminium production industry (‘ENEXAL’ for short). A core aspect of this programme has been the application of the AMRT Process to treating bauxite residue – the primary waste from processing bauxite into alumina, which is produced in enormous volume around the world each year. The project will seek to prove that bauxite residue can be treated within an AMRT Process furnace to produce iron and an environmentally-inert slag that can be further processed into mineral wool for insulation.
