Cherat is shaped like a sausage measuring 2 miles in length, situated on the crest of Khattak range, 4447 above mean sea level. The British took over the Peshawar district in 1849 from the Sikhs and stationed their troops at Peshawar. The sizzling summer of Peshawar led to the discovery of Cherat as a hill station. It was first used as a sanatorium for troops in 1861 it was covered into a cantonment. The oldest crest which adorns the cliffs was put up in 1881. After independence, the boys wing of armoured corps was located here for some time. On first raising in 1956, Cherat became the home of special service group of Pakistan army and has become to be known as the "Eagles Nest" from these onwards the hills of Cherat continuously reverberate with slogans of "Man Janbazam"
