#AfricanHorizon is a weekly NRCI original series released every Wednesday. NRCI´s founder and CEO Arne Elias Corneliussen presents his perspectives on geopolitical, economic, financial and security developments in Africa.
In this program he examines the booming telecom sector in Africa. Telecom providers across Africa made record number revenues during the Corona pandemic as many people were locked up home using internet and mobile broadband. In addition there is a growing ecosystem of industries and business sectors that grow rapidly with the rising telecom sector. However, despite this growth in the telecom sector this is still in the beginning - because almost 70 % of Africa´s population is not connected to broadband.
Africa´s total population is currently approaching 1,4 billion people, this will rise to 1,7 billion by 2030, 2,1 billion by 2040 and 2,5 billion by 2050. This provides a huge growth market for the telecom sector and this connected ecosystem of mobile financial providers, mobile payment systems, internet and telecom infrastructure providers and the internet economy. Therefore, now is the right time to explore business opportunities and invest in the booming telecom sector and related industries on the African continent.
