Drug squad officers in China face a much higher risk of work-related injury or death than most other police. That may be due to the severe punishments the courts hand down for drug-related crimes. Many of them may remember a decade ago, when an officer was killed by drug smugglers during the battle in the virgin forest of China’s southwest Yunnan province.
